How do I take care of my Paulina Meza Jewelry pieces?

Silver jewelry, when in contact with air, inevitably oxidizes (staining black). For this reason we recommend that when you are not using it, you always keep it in a dry, dark place and in its original packaging or sealable bag, to avoid contact with other objects. In general, one must avoid contact with water or substances that contain chemical products (perfumes, creams or sprays). Do not expose them to the sun. If you have questions about how to clean a specific piece, contact us before making a decision that could damage your jewelry.

Silver pieces care

The polished or shiny surfaces of the silver pieces should be rubbed with a Silver Cleaning Cloth, which can be purchased in our online store or other establishments. The piece is rubbed vigorously with the cloth until the luster of the piece resembles that of a mirror. The parts that have a matte texture should not be rubbed with the Cleaning Cloth as they will lose their matte finish. The Cleaning Cloth is also used on pieces that have materials or finishes that cannot be submerged in any Cleaning Liquid such as stones, pearls, natural materials or other material that is not silver. The pieces stained by the rust that forms on the silver and which gives a black / dirty appearance can be cleaned with the Cleaning Liquid. The Cleaning Liquid can be purchased at our Workshop in Torreón, Coahuila and comes in a small blue bottle. This Liquid is used to clean silver only. The piece is immersed in the liquid for a few seconds depending on how dirty it is and later it is rinsed very well with water and dried perfectly with a towel. If the piece is not perfectly dry, it will rust more easily. Both the Cleaning Cloth and the Cleaning Liquid should never be used on blued silver or gold plated pieces. Neither in pieces that have pearls or stones since it spoils them permanently. The other parts of the piece (pearls, stones, etc.) should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth.

Gold pieces care

Unlike silver, gold parts do not rust or get dirty on contact with air, however the natural oil from the body can stain the parts and make them look bad. To clean these parts it can be rubbed with the Cleaning Cloth, following the same precautions as with silver. In particular, when the piece has some Texture, the Cleaning Cloth will damage it, so it should not be used on pieces that have Texture. The pieces or parts of white gold should never be rubbed with the Cleaning Cloth as this damages the platinum layer that is attached to the white gold. Another way to clean the gold parts is to use a cloth slightly dampened with alcohol or Windex. This helps remove grease / oil or dirt that builds up on the gold surface of the piece. The other parts of the piece (pearls, stones, etc.) should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth.
